This is a test post under the new blogger template. From there the contest grew and continued to evolve listening to feedback from it's participants to make it a more fair and beneficial event. The contest became the first of it's kind in the country to require comedians to vote on one another, even giving more weight to those votes then the average audience member.
In 2009 the contest had moved to City Stage at Level 5, an old Masonic Theater that sat just over 200 people. The event nearly sold out for the finals. Shortly after this event, discussion began between Timmy and Matt about combining Port City's Top Comic with a larger event and creating the Cape Fear Comedy Festival.
2012 marked the final year the two events were combined, as Cape Fear grew to the point that the two events needed to find separate spots on the calendar.
This year Port City's Top Comic is having it's preliminary rounds at Nutt Street Comedy Room on March 29th-30th and April 5th-6th. The finals will be April 27th at TheatreNOWalso in dowtown Wilmington.
Entries are still being accepted for this year's contest for anyone in North Carolina and surrounding states.
